Program de Novo

Design and implement a fully functional hospitalist program de novo

HPS works with numerous organizations (hospitals, physician groups, medical staffs, and integrated healthcare systems) to design a fully functional hospitalist program. This process is customized according to your needs. HPS appreciates that each community and hospitalist program is unique. We pride ourselves on integrating the needs of your community with the mission and vision of your program.

HPS accomplishes this service in a number of ways. During the initial stage, we will provide an in-depth assessment of the current medical community and sponsoring hospital. This includes all of the services offered during the feasibility evaluation. We will make recommendations for both organizational and operational infrastructure, optimizing practice operations and establishing a chain of command. HPS will also provide on-site educational sessions for key stakeholders prior to initiation of the program

HPS will also assess the clinical staffing requirements at the program start-up which include number of providers and provider type (e.g. physician, physician assistant/nurse practitioner, RN, medical assistant, etc.). We will propose various practice model options defining day-to-day hospitalist scheduling as well as call coverage. Based on these projections we will make recommendations regarding program scope of service. HPS will also create a recruitment, retention, and orientation manual for your new program. We can assist with hospitalist recruitment (screening candidates for practice fit) upon request.  HPS will provide hospitalist contract recommendations (e.g. compensation).

The success of any hospitalist program will be undermined unless the appropriate structure is in place. HPS will work with you at the onset to develop tools and strategies that provide this structure and guide your program. These tools will clearly define expectations for all stakeholders and support collaboration between the hospitalist program and hospital administration. For example, we will provide policies, procedures, and protocols addressing communication, staffing and scheduling, daily hospitalist responsibilities, and hospitalist documentation, coding, and billing.  We will also provide customer service recommendations supporting patient, referring provider, and hospital staff satisfaction.

As part of the program de novo creation, HPS will provide a hospitalist business and strategic plan which will provide guidance and direction for program startup as well as expansion.

HPS will work with your organization to carefully timeline practice growth from the onset of hospitalist services through the first twenty-four months.

3, 6, and 12 month follow up site review and analysis

HPS can also provide a 3, 6, and 12 month site review and analysis in order to evaluate progress and maintain focus on program start-up initiatives. A follow-up site visit is highly recommended. In some instances a remote review may be appropriate.
